A Weekend in the Life of a Travelling Buccaneer

As soon as the Sea Robbers got one over Richards Bay to book their place in the Carling K.O. final, I made the decision to go and catch them live in the championship game, no matter where in the country it would be played.

The subsequent planning of the trip to South Africa's northernmost province had me booking accommodation a fair amount of time before the opening of the ticket sales, with a return to the previously-visited Pietersburg Club booked via my own Agoda affiliate link. You do indeed earn your affiliate commission for booking through your own affiliate links.

And so, after enduring a rather stressful period of the Open Tickets website having crashed from the very second the tickets were earmarked to be available, and even returning with similar system-offline news from the two Shoprite outlets at the mall next door to find that the website was still offline, I finally managed to book my ticket -- a full hour and twenty minutes after the supposed 10 a.m. opening.

That's a hundred bucks I'd make back about three times over while on the trip, via sports betting arbitrage, but mirroring Mr. Orlando Parrot's thoughts, at the Snake & Reptile Park I'd go on to visit the day after the final, I still wonder if the Kaizer Chiefs supporters who attended this match actually bought their own tickets.

So, albeit this time around the waterfall there by Mountain View was dry, one train from Soshanguve and one R310 taxi from town had me arriving in Polokwane as the sun was setting, having ensured to take in the diverse beauty of this country. Complimentary sightseeing duly savoured as something I'm always conscious of as a reminder of how we live on the same planet but in different worlds. Not very many other people appear to gaze out the window and enjoy the beauty of the rolling landscapes.

I wonder if there was anyone in that same taxi who was going to what I'd go on to learn was a Lekompo event, earlier on in the same day as the big game, and ironically to be held at the Cricket Club. A brother I'd been in hospital with, back in 2023, swore he saw me vlogging, but wasn't sure it was really me, when we were texting a day after I'd attended the final and he the Lekompo event.

He'd already left by then and I of course still had one night to sleep, just about to head to the Snake & Reptile Park which was also a stone's throw away from where I'd booked.

An awesome three-night-stay it was at the Pietersburg Club, in what I'm more-than-50% sure was a room directly opposite to the one I'd previously stayed one night in, just after the pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted.

My admittedly sometimes overly-logical constitution quietly approved, upon the realisation that they don't appear to enforce the subjectively petty and unnecessarily prudish dress-code for the dining hall in which the inclusive breakfast is served daily, which I filled up on to capacity as one of two big meals I'd have each day. Sorting dinner out via Uber Eats brought back fond memories around the now defunct Foodpanda during my 15-month Digital Nomad stint in Phuket, some six years ago now.

So, I had Nando's on one occasion, having been craving some since the morning when I was in the train to town, and on another, RocMamas, this time with none of the pre-hospitalisation food allergies that previously had me ordering with a special request to not have their traditional, signature RocoMayo sauce included.

The place was indeed within comfortable walking distance of the Peter Mokaba Stadium, but the jerky network sitution at the gate caused major delays as the tickets which were said to be exclusively digital had to be barcode scanned in order to get in. The network doesn't get any better inside the venue, and prevented me from making contact with my cousin, whom I'd learned was also attending the game, although, like a normal person, he wasn't travelling to see the game alone, unlike like yours truly.

Otherwise, the atmosphere was just fantastic -- A brother nearly dropped a tear as I entered the arena, as part of the last wave of supporters making up the capacity crowd.

The boys didn't disappoint on the field, clinching the trophy in extra time, but I so needed this little getaway as one of my takeaways was the inspiration that comes with that ever more familiar winning feeling.

Stay tuned to the channel to have some of this inspiration rub-off on you as well, along with the opportunities to replicate the realistically practical demonstrations of the make money online endeavours implemented.
